AGARTALA | April 08, 2019:

Just days before the state goes for Lok Sabha polls, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), a partner in the BJP-led coalition government in the state, suffered a major setback following the resignation of vice president, Ananta Debbarma, who quit the party to join the Congress today.

Addressing a news conference at Ujjayanta palace on Monday, Debbarma said IPFT formed the coalition government with BJP in March 09, 2018, but till date, the commitment made before the Assembly elections in the state are yet to be fulfilled.

"I sent my resignation letter to the party's president and revenue minister N. C Debbarma. Along with me, there would be more IPFT workers who will support congress. IPFT didn't fulfill their promises. They ignored and fooled the indigenous people of the state", Debbarma said.

He also stated that IPFT will not fulfill the demand of the indigenous people of 'Tipraland'.

"Despite the loud cry for Tipraland and the promises made thereafter, I know that the IPFT would not be able to fulfill a single promise. The word Tipraland is going to be erased soon", he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Tripura Congress president and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debburman said, "I am happy to get the support of regional parties. Their support is conditional to certain demands like direct funding to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous DistrictCouncil (TTAADC), the introduction of Kokborok language in Roman script and scrapping the CAB in Parliament. We have agreed to their demands."

It may be mentioned that recently, over 400 IPFT workers left the party to join the Congress.

The IPFT and BJP are contesting against each other in the two Lok Sabha constituency seats in Tripura.
