Tripura govt decides to elevate District Council to ‘Territorial Council’

Tripura government, today has decided to change the status of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) into a 'Territorial Council' to provide direct funding and more power to it.

Addressing a news conference, Minister of Tribal Welfare and Forest of the state, Mevar Kumar Jamatia, said, the cabinet ministers of the state government has decided to elevate the status of District Council to Territorial Council.

"For the last 35 years TTAADC has no power and no development was done. It is a historical decision taken by the new government and I really appreciate and want to congratulate our Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and in his leadership the state cabinet has approved the proposal", he added.

"The government has also decided to increase the seats in the tribal council from 30 to 50 and increase the departments from 17 to 43", Mevar said.
