AGARTALA | Sept 14, 2019:

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma on Saturday fired a salvo at the BJP-led government for hiking the healthcare tariffs in the state

"By saying 'Chalo Paltai', the BJP government probably meant hiking prices and scrapping free medical services," said the state Congress president.

It may be mentioned that the decision of the Biplab Deb-led government in Tripura to revise the healthcare tariffs in the state has invited criticisms from the Opposition parties like the CPI-M and the Congress.

Addressing a large gathering in the bye election at the 14th Badarghat constituency on Saturday, Debbarma said, the slogan which got the BJP to power last year was "chalo paltai" which means let's change. "And the only thing they have changed is free medical benefits to the patients in govt hospitals," he added.

Tripura is one of the poorest states in the region, said Debbarma adding that this move by the government has drawn a lot of flak as it will directly affect the poorer section of the society.

Furthermore, the Congress president said that the BJP was not able to fulfill any of the promises made to the people during elections. "None of the promises such as 7th pay commission or Rs 340 as MNREGA was kept by the BJP," he added.

It may be reminded that Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb had recently clarified the government's move to hike the prices of health care services
stating that revising the tariff for all services will have a total decrease of about 35 % compared to the fee charts of Health department during the previous government.

He had also slammed the Opposition parties for allegedly "confusing" the public on the issue while terming the allegations as "false propaganda".
