Tripura: Congress leader jailed for “social media post” gets interim bail till Jan 9

AGARTALA | JAN 7, 2019:

Youth Congress activist Arindam Bhattacharjee, who was arrested for a social media post against BJP has been granted interim bail by a local court of Agartala till January 9 next.

Based on an FIR filed by BJP leader, Victor Shome, police arrested Arindam Bhattacharjee for posting a fake post in facebook on Saturday night, in which he alleged that if anybody gives missed-call on a specific number given by BJP to support the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will immediately hacked their mobile data.

Following the arrest, a large number of Congress supporters led by senior leader Subal Bhowmik rushed to the police station and staged demonstration demanding immediate release of their youth activists. They also alleged that police motivated by ruling party had falsely arrested their member.

On Sunday, the West Agartala police station registering the case under 120 (B) and 153 (A) arrested Arindam Bhattacharjee and produced him before the court. The investigation officer (IO) of the case also plead for five day police remand of the accused and appealed for addition of sections 505(B) (C) and 505 (2) of IPC.

After the long hearing of both prosecution and defense team, the court on Sunday evening granted the interim bail to accused Arindam Bhattacharjee till January 9 next.
