Tripura: 16-yr-old Student dies after being repeatedly ‘tortured’ by Hostel Warden

A Class IX student of Holy Cross School at Pabiachhara in Kumarghat, Tripura died at GBP hospital after being allegedly tortured 'repeatedly' by the hostel warden. The deceased student has been identified as Happy Debbarma.

According to sources, an FIR has been lodged against the Warden of Holy Cross School at Kumarghat. According to the FIR, the Warden used to torture Happy Debbarma without any reasons. On September 25, the Warden entered into Happy's room and kicked him severely that the victim sustained injuries.

The following day, Happy talked to his mother- Rajmala Debbarma and moved out of the hostel. According to Rajmala, her son had complained about the injuries he sustained from getting beaten up by the 'erring' warden.

Rajmala said that her son returned home on October 6 for Durga Puja vacation. However, he was very ill and had several injury marks on his body. When asked about the injury marks, Happy told his mother that the hostel warden had beaten him severely.

Then, Rajmala took her injured son to Manu Hospital from where he was referred to GBP Hospital. After the checkup, the doctor admitted Happy at that hospital and prescribed for some tests. However, the 16-year-old Happy could not make it and died on 8 October night at GBP hospital.

The family members registered a case with Kumatghat Police Station on Wednesday against the hostel warden.

According to sources, the police will take next course of action after getting postmortem report.

Meanwhile, Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Debbarman spoke to the family members of the deceased and advised them to file a case against the hostel and the warden. "I will also will be speaking to the police to take prompt action because this cannot be an one off action by this warden."
