Tripura: BJP’s ally IPFT launches indefinite sit-in- protest against CAA

AGARTALA | Jan 06:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally — Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) staged a sit-in protest for indefinite period from 10 in the morning today at Khumulwng, headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in Dukmali demanding to exempt Tripura from Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and to grant Tipraland.

It may be mentioned that earlier too, Tripura has witnessed series of protests against the CAA. Tribal leaders were supposed to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on December 12 last to discuss the issue but they are yet to get any call from Home Minister.

On December 9 last, the IPFT observed a 24-hour strike seeking exemption from CAA for Tripura.

As a result, the IPFT supporters have once again stirred, raising their voice against the CAA and demanding to exempt Tripura from Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and to grant Tipraland.

A joint forum of three tribal political parties and social organizations on Sunday announced series of agitations starting with a protest demonstration on January 7 at Agartala.
