Tripura: 245 stranded Indians return from B’desh
AGARTALA | JUNE 19, 2020:
A total of 245 Indians, who had been stranded in Bangladesh for more than three months were finally able to return through the Akhaura-Agartala integrated check-post (ICP), adjacent to Agartala, on Thursday and Friday.
"The returnees were able to come back by road. All the 245 people were sent to institutional quarantine centres for seven days, after which they have to be under home quarantine for another seven days," officials said.
Meanwhile, 32 Bangladeshis, who had been stranded in India since the first lockdown, have been sent back through a checkpoint in Assam's Karimganj district.
Eight out of the 32 Bangladeshis were studying in NIT Silchar in Assam's Cachar district. Others had come to India for medical treatment. They were also screened by a medical team before being sent back.
It may be mentioned that 235 stranded Indians returned to Tripura and Assam from Bangladesh back in May with many testing positive for Covid-19.
