Third NSCN militant found dead in follow-up operations

KOHIMA/ITANAGAR, November 19, 2018: Just days after two militants of the NSCN (faction yet to be established) were killed in a fire battle with Security Forces near Laptang Village, Tirap district on Saturday morning, another militant was shot dead in follow-up operation launched by the Khonsa battalion that evening.

It may be mentioned that the Khonsa battalion had on Saturday morning launched an operation after receiving inputs on the presence of militants in Tirap district.

During the operation, the personnel were reported fired at, who retaliated resulting in the dead of one unidentified militant of the NSCN.

Pursuing various leads, the Khonsa battalion launched multiple columns, pursuing fleeing insurgents.

It was informed that one of its columns near Borduria village came under fire from fleeing insurgents on Saturday evening. The security forces retaliated with "controlled effective fire", resulting in an intense fire fight in which a NSCN insurgent was killed, informed a Defence source.

While the other two militants have been identified as Major Joiwang Mongchan and Ponngam Kamhua alias Vicky, the identity of the third insurgent is yet to be determined.
