Sikkim University molestation case: Students protest to demand transparent and immediate action

Protesting Students of Sikkim Central University have demanded a transparent and immediate action in the alleged molestation case involving Prof Shilajit Guha.

Students from different departments have staged a strong protest and dharna while shouting slogans against Prof Guha, who was called by the Internal Complaints Committee of the university.

It may be recalled that the Head of the department of Mass Communication of SU has been facing allegation of molestation of a student of the university. The incident took place on May 5. The victim registered her written complaint on 12 May to the university after which the matter was transferred to ICC and it is under investigation.

Prof Guha has placed his side of the story to the ICC today. It was informed that the committee has been investigating the matter and will submit its report on June 20. The committee has assured of transparent and fair investigation on the matter.

Silajit Guha who appeared before the ICC yesterday stated to the media that he is cooperating with ICC and he will go by "whatever decision the body will take".

The students have been protesting since yesterday for speedy justice in the case that has shocked the university.
