Sikkim reels under post poll violence, CM PS Golay issues strict warning

Expressing concern on the reported violence in different parts of Sikkim, the new Chief Minister PS Golay took to Facebook to issue a strict warning against those involved.


He has said that strict police and legal action would be taken against those who are indulging in violence in the name of SKM functionaries. He added that such members will be expelled from the party.


There have been reports emerging from South district of violence and vandalism after the counting was over.

Opposition SDF party's Spokesperson, KT Gyaltsen while conceding the people's mandate after poll results had raised concern about incidents of post poll violence in Sikkim and had asked the authorities to do the needful according to law.

Several reports emerged of alleged torching of vehicles of SDF supporters in Kopchey South Sikkim after the counting was over.

Thereafter, many cases were also filed in Namchi Police Station against unknown miscreants.

One of the reasons SDF party had given for their decision to boycott oath taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister was the alleged post poll violence in many parts of Sikkim.

Unconfirmed reports have been emerging from many parts of South Sikkim particularly Namchi and Melli of vandalism and destruction of private and public property.

Stone pelting at houses and properties of SDF supporters has also been reported in various parts of state.
