Sikkim records dismal turnout in bypolls; Gangtok lowest at 51.97 %

GANGTOK | Oct 21, 2019:

A tiny Himalayan State in the Northeast, Sikkim went for by-polls in 3 Assembly constituencies where the turn out of voters was recorded at only 68.37

27 Gangtok( East District) recorded the lowest voters' turnout of only 51.97 percent. Only 3316 Male and 2792 Female voters out of 11752 total voters turned out to cast their votes today.

While in 10 Poklok-Kamrang (South District), the turnout was 80.56% and in 24 Martam-Rumtek (East District), it was 72.60 %. Out of total 15695 voters in 10 Poklok-Kamrang (South District), 6520 Male and 6124 Female voters turned out to cast their votes today.

24 Martam-Rumtek, East District had total voters of 16951 out of which 6317 Male and 5989 Female voters turned out.

Meanwhile, the first polling team to arrive in the Material Receiving Centre was a polling team stationed at Kamrang Secondary School after conducting the polls for Bye-Elections of 10 Poklok Kamrang Assembly Constituency under South District.

Similarly, the second polling team to report to the Material Receiving Centre was the polling team stationed at Assangthang Secondary school. In addition, the highest voter turnout was reported from Nandugoan Senior Secondary School.

Polling team reaches Material Receiving Centre

The team handed the polled Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail(VVPATs) along with the polling materials to the concerned officials in the material receiving centre situated at District Administrative Centre (DAC), Namchi.
