Sikkim announces names for Assembly bypolls


On the last day of filing of nominations for Bye-Elections for the three assembly constituencies eighteen candidates have filed nominations which includes Chief Minister PS Tamang, Footballer turned Politician Bhaichung Bhutia and R Ongmu, First woman minister of Sikkim.

In Poklok Kamrang Assembly Constituency Returning Officer (South District) Ragul K. informed that a total of seven nominations were received from four candidate.

The names of the candidates are as CM Prem Singh Tamang (SKM), Kharka Bdr Rai (SKM), Moses Rai (SDF), and Yadhu Kumar Rai (SRP).

While in the East District two constituencies of Gangtok and Martam-Rumtek (both Bhutia Lepcha seats) are up for contest.

Fourteen candidates have filed their nominations at the office of the Returning Officer, East district Raj Yadav in the presence of the General Observer, Madhurima Baruah (Sen).

The total nominations received today for 2 Constituencies was 14 out of which 8 nominations were received for Martam Rumtek and 6 nominations was received for Gangtok.

The candidates are Nuk Tshering Bhutia (SDF), Sonam Tshering Venchungpa (BJP), Mingma Tshering Sherpa (SRP), Nima Lepcha (HSP), Passang G.Sherpa (Independent), Sonam Tashi Bhutia (Independent), Mechung Bhutia (Independent) and Chewang Dadul Bhutia (Independent) from Martam Rumtek constituency.

The urban Gangtok constituency would have Delay Namgyal Barfungpa (SNPP), Yomg Tshering Lepcha (BJP), Rinzing Ongmu Bhutia (SDF), Song Tshering Lepcha (SRP), Bhaichung Bhutia (HSP) and Karma Yenthen Chankapa (Independent).
