Nagaland: Showcause notice served to 3 education officers for ‘corruption’

KOHIMA | Feb 20:

Three officers of the Education Department, Government of Nagaland have been slapped with show-cause notice for their alleged involvement in corruption. The show cause notices were served by Department of School Education.

The three officers have been identified as Dr Chubanungsang Imchen, Joint Director of the Directorate of School Education, Imtionen, junior education officer of the directorate and Y Daniel Lotha, joint education officer, DEO, Wokha.

The trio has been alleged of misappropriating public money, fabrication of documents, cheating and criminal breach of trust, inflicting financial loss to the state exchequer.


According to a letter issued by the Commissioner and secretary to the Governor, T Mhabemo Yanthan to the Chief Secretary on Feb 17, the Governor RN Ravi desired that the government may consider getting a criminal case registered and investigated since the offences are criminal and serious.

Furthermore, the letter read, "The Supreme Court has held that criminal and departmental proceedings may run simultaneously."
