Shillong streets come back to life as city witnesses traffic jam

For the first time since lockdown was imposed in March, the streets of Shillong came back to life on Monday and the usual sight of vehicles lining up, was hard to miss.

Traffic jam during lockdown? A rare phenomenon!

After almost a month of social and economic inactivity owing to the curfew and lockdown, the Meghalaya government had last week announced relaxation in certain areas from May 4.

Even though the nation wide lockdown has been extended by two weeks till May 17, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued guidelines to be followed while also providing relief and relaxation in certain areas depending on the colour-classified zones.

Since Meghalaya is slowly recovering from the infection, if not fully recovered, the state, East Khasi Hills, to be exact, now falls under the orange zone with only one case left.

Function of the offices in the Secretariat as well as in the Directorate resumed from today with 33 percent attendance as far as Group B and Group D staff is concerned. considered with effect from May 04.

Even though day curfew has been lifted in the city from today, night curfew will however remain from 7 pm to 7 am as prescribed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
