Rains ahead for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura

 |

Weather | Nov 8, 2019:

Since last many days, weather of Northeast India is running almost dry. However, a few parts of Assam are experiencing isolated light to moderate rains. In fact, at present, Arunachal Pradesh is deficient by 41% as on November 7. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are rain deficient by 19%. At the same time, Assam and Meghalaya are deficient by 16%. So, we can say that rains in post-Monsoon season have been very less over Northeast India.

Reason for these scanty rains was the lack of any major weather system over North Bay of Bengal, due to which humid winds from Bay of Bengal remained absent.

Now, however, we expect a good spell of rains over Northeast India particularly in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. These rains will be in the wake of Cyclone Bulbul which is moving in Bay of Bengal towards Bangladesh. Although, its effect is already visible over Northeast India in terms of increased cloud cover.

We expect scattered rains to commence over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura by today evening. There will be a gradual increase in rains, but we expect the intensity to remain light to moderate until November 9.

On November 10 and 11, we expect moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over these areas as Cyclone Bulbul is set to make a landfall over Bangladesh. It will move towards Northeast India and will degenerate rapidly. Its remnants will keep giving scattered rains until November 11 over scattered places in Northeast India.

Thereafter, the weather will go dry.
