SHILLONG | JUNE 24, 2020:

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyndoh on Tuesday, informed that the construction work for the new Assembly building located at Mawdiangdiang in New Shillong Township will be completed within a given period set by the state government.

The Speaker, after inspecting the construction site on Tuesday, held a review meeting with the officials from various departments.

Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said, "The completion of the construction of the Assembly building should be within the time we have set. We intend to complete the project by December 2021 to January 2022."

While assuring that the project is going smoothly and is not facing any financial shortage, he said, "I am happy that the Chief Minister had also assured that special attention will be given for the construction of this new building."

He said that the building, after its completion, will be a pride for the state. He, however, lamented the failure of the previous leaderships to come up with any plan regarding the construction of the new assembly building in the last 20 years.

Lyngdoh also added that since the project is massive, there will be a few problems arising from time to time. However, he said that he is happy with the level of coordination undertaken by officers of every department.

It is to be mentioned that the construction of the Rs. 127 crore new Assembly building is being handled by Uttar Pradesh-based Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd. It began in June last year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the construction work had to be shut for two months. The work resumed in May.
