‘Outpouring love’ – Brus launch massive rally thanking Tripura royal scion

AGARTALA | January 20, 2020:

After 22 years of "identity crisis", the Bru tribes called Reang in Tripura have finally acquired justice and their fight will remain a history after an agreement was signed on Thursday to settle over 30,000 people belonging to 5,300 families of the community in Tripura where they migrated in 1997 from Mizoram following a tribal unrest.

In Tripura, thousands of Bru refugees hit the road to show their heartfelt gratitude to Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman for his effort in restoring their identity.

Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, on the historical background of the Brus and their connection with Tripura, had wrote a strong letter to Center explaining how Bru families actually belonged to Tripura and was forced to move to Mizoram following their displacement for construction of a dam of the Dumbur hydro-electrical project in the 1970s.

Expressing happiness, one of the Bru organizations had also written a letter thanking him and extended their gratitude.

As per the agreement, the refugees will settle in Tripura and will be given aid for their rehabilitation — a move that came after Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had in November last year agreed to settling the Bru tribals in November last year.
