NGOs declare war on drugs in Manipur

Agape Museum, an apex body of 143 NGOs located in different hill districts of Manipur, have pledged to work in the destruction of poppy plantations in their respective areas.

In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the apex body mentioned, “We believe in your leadership, wisdom and understanding. We pray earnestly that God will bless you in our endeavour, working together by replacing poppy cultivation with horticulture crops like banana, orange, lemon, pineapple etc to change Manipur as never before.”

Representatives of these said NGOs met Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressing their support to the Manipur government’s ongoing campaign “War On Drugs”.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said, “Poppy growers are not my enemy but I wish to save the future generation from drug abuse and trafficking.”
