Nagaland | Peren instates district task force for plastic ban

KOHIMA, April 17, 2019: The district administration of Peren has instated a task force to restrict the use of plastic in the district. The action was stated to be in compliance with the National Green Tribunal's order concerning implementation of the Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016.

The government publicity agency, Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Tuesday informing about the task force.

The task force is composed of representatives from a number of government servants and community organisations:

The district's deputy commissioner, police superintendent, district forest officer; additional deputy commissioners of Peren and Jalukie, Tening; administrator of Jalukie Town Council; all "outpost administrative officers"; urban development officer; and representatives from the Zeliang Mipui Organization, ZeliangrongBaudi, Progressive Peren, Peren/Jalukie/Tening Town Women Organization; and Peren/Jalukie/Tening Town youth Organisation; and representatives from churches in the district, the IPR stated.

'The task force will function as squads for vigilance purpose and ensure ban on stocking, distribution, selling and use of any carry bags 50mm thickness and plastic sachets/pouches usage of packaging, storing or selling of gutkha, tobacco and pan masala with immediate effect,' the IPR added.
