‘Naga I-Day’ celebrated across Nagaland as students hoist own ‘national flag’

KOHIMA | Aug 14, 2019:

The influential Naga Student's Federation today celebrated the "73rd Naga Independence Day" and hoisted the 'Naga national flag' at NSF Solidarity Park, Kohima.

The celebration was marked a day before India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15.

NSF president, Ninoto Awomi said that NSF was formed, committed to the "intellectual fight" against any forces that threatens the existence, right, freedom and identity of Nagas.

"We observe our Independence day to express the will of the Naga Youth in good faith & prayer that the world shall bear witness & in fair judgement, honour our unique history, identity and political goals", he said.

He further added that they have declared 14 August as their Independence Day because it was on this day in 1947 when Nagas declared themselves completely free from any imperialistic forces.
