‘Most Wanted’ insurgent of NSCN (K-YA) held in Nagaland

KOHIMA | June 22, 2019:

In a joint operation by the Army and Assam Rifles, the "senior-most officer" of NSCN (K) Yung Aung faction, responsible for ambush on 40th Assam Rifles leading to death of two soldiers, was apprehended in Nagaland on Friday, sources said.

Two cadres of his outfit were also apprehended. Self Styled Maj Gen Yanghang @ Mopa is the highest ranking cadre of NSCN (K- Yung Aung) faction in India and "is the chief architect of extortion and perpetrator of many heinous crimes", Defence officials said.

He was controlling all operations of the faction in the complete area of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

Acting on human and technical intelligence, the trio was apprehended on Aboi-Mon Road.

"The self-styled general is the senior-most officer of the NSCN(K) Yung Aung faction operating in Nagaland which is considered responsible for the ambush on 40 AR (Assam Rifles) in May where they had two fatal casualties," the source said.

It may be mentioned that a cash reward of Rs Five Lakh was announced for information regarding these insurgents involved and same was widely publicised.

Ground inputs were received regarding presence of these insurgents in the general area of Aboi in Mon District and additional check points were established.

At 11:20 AM on 21 June, security forces were able to identify the vehicle they were travelling and in a swift clinical operation were able to apprehended these insurgents before they could escape.

"This is a massive victory for all the Security Forces and State Governments. Security Forces have a firm resolve to continue their relentless operations to protect all the citizens from this bane of terrorism," said Defence officials.

In a press statement, security forces have appealed to all the cadres to give up this futile course of violence and join the initiative of Government of India in ceasefire efforts to bring peace and development in all our region.
