AIZAWL, November 23, 2018: Security has been beefed up in various places in the poll-bound state as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address rallies today.

"Lunglei in Mizoram getting ready to welcome PM Modi tomorrow for a BJP election rally. PM will address a rally in Lunglei and meet with various NGO and civil society leaders at Aizawl tomorrow," BJP general secretary Ram Madhav tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi had last visited the northeastern state in December 2017 and had dedicated 60 Mega-Watt Tuirial Hydro-power Project.

The BJP is contesting 39 seats out of 40 assembly constituencies in the state – where Congress is in power for last 10 years since 2008.

The real contest this year is expected between Congress and MNF led by former Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) is a coalition of smaller regional parties which is also expected to put up a stiff fight.

Security has been beefed up in Aizawl in view of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to stage agitation against PM Modi's visit.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi and BJP national president Amit Shah have already campaigned
in the state.
