Meghalaya SSA teachers  demand equal pay, regularization of services

The All Garo Hills SSA 4th Teachers' Association has demanded for equal pay for equal work with an enhancement of their salaries from the current Rs 12000 to Rs 20493 at par with the other SSA teachers.

A delegation of members of the Association met the director of School Education and Literacy, Ambrose Marak and submitted a memorandum of their demands which also included the demand for regularization of services 1513 SSA 4th teachers in the state.

The teachers, who have been fighting to ensure the fulfillment of their two demands, have further sought a clarification from the director, Ambrose Marak as to under what head the post of the SSA 4th teacher fell.

"There are 1513 SSA 4th teachers working in the state in various schools. However, we are still unclear about where our post falls. As such we would like a detailed clarification on the matter as per the state's elementary education policy," said the delegation through the memo.

The delegation also met the principal secretary, DP Wahlang over the same matter. Later copies of the memorandums were submitted to NPP MLA from Rongara- Siju, Rakkam Sangma and Gambegre MLA, Saleng Sangma for their support over the matter of the teacher's welfare.
