The All Meghalaya SSA 4th Teachers Association on December 17 met various education officials and the Minister for education, Lakhmen Rymbui, to seek redressal of their long pending demands.

The association met the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), A Ch Marak, who assured them the hike in the salaries of the 4th teacher to ₹ 20,493 had already been proposed in 2020 and is awaiting approval.

“We also met the Minister-in-charge of education, Lakhmen Rymbui, to seek his help in addressing our concerns. Further, we met the Principal secretary for education, DP Wahlang and the special officer, I Lyngdoh on our concerns,” said a representative of the teachers.

Besides an increase in remuneration, the teachers have been seeking to get their services regularised.

“We have been sacrificing our lives to educate children and have been doing so for many years. Based on the longevity of our work as teachers, we have demanded that our services be regularised,” said the association members.

Currently, there are over 1500 SSA 4th teachers in the state.
