Meghalaya police on December 23 recovered another cache of ammunition allegedly belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) from the village of Chipot Mongre Abri.

The search operation under the command of the Deputy SP of EGH, Victor N Sangma, was launched, and the information was based from local sources which pointed to the ammunition being hidden in the hills of Chipot Mongre Abri.

The recovered items were 47 (.30-06) mm ammunition stored in a plastic jar and wrapped before it was buried in the place.

The current recovery today is among many that have kept police forces in the region busy as the former commander of GNLA, Sohan D Shira, allegedly hid ammunition in many places across Garo Hills.

According to police sources, the ammunition has been brought to the Williamnagar Police Station in the district of East Garo Hills and a case is being registered.
