Meghalaya police issue advisory; don’t purchase second-hand items

KHLIEHRIAT | July 5, 2019:

The Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District has issued advisory for the general public not to purchase second-hand articles especially mobile phones and other electronic items from any unauthorized person, dealer or agency as the article might have been acquired illegally by way of theft, extortion, robbery, dacoity, criminal breach of trust or criminal misappropriation.

Such articles are deemed as stolen property and as per the law of the land, receiving or retaining of stolen property is punishable with imprisonment which may extend to life imprisonment.

The identity of the informer will be kept confidential and suitable reward will be given.
