Meghalaya: “No one is leaving Congress to join BJP”, says Mukul

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Dr Mukul Sangma has rubbished reports on some Congress MLAs leaving the party to join the BJP or other political parties.

Sangma asserted that there no truth in such report as no Congress MLA would leave the party.

"No one is leaving the party to join the BJP or any other party," Dr Mukul who is also the Leader of Opposition told reporters here on Friday.

Earlier, there were reports about some Congress MLAs sending feelers to other political parties including the BJP as they wanted to leave the party. 

The MDA coalition partners had been claiming that the Congress MLAs including senior Congress lesgislators like Ampareen Lyngdoh wanting to leave the party to join other parties.

Reacting to this report, Ampareen had stated that she is keeping her options open. There were also reports of Dr Mukul planning to join the BJP even though he had clarified that he had no intention to leave the Congress.

He further stated said that the party has got an internal mechanism to take care if there is such kind of development. Meanwhile, the CLP leader said that it is a normal thing if MLAs across party lines meet.

When asked about the statements made by Ampareen, the Leader of Opposition said "I want to make to it very clear that the CLP is united. She (Ampareen) was present when we had the CLP meeting few days back," Dr Mukul said.

When asked if the action by the State police against the news website based in Guwahati is an attempt to gag the media, Dr Sangma said he was not aware how the police are handling the case adding that he had registered a complaint with the police on the news report which is creating misinformation and confusion.
