Meghalaya: NGO leader held in Nongstoin assault case

One person was held for allegedly assaulting a manager of Shree Shakhambari Ferro Alloys Private Limited, at Riwiang in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya on February 25.

According to sources, the person identified as Arphul Kharbani assaulted one Mahesh Bhimsaria, manager of Shree Shakhambari Ferro Alloys Private Limited, on enquiring about his pending bill.

The manager told the accused that the company has deposited the money in his account. Arphul said that he received nothing and a heated argument broke out in which the accused lost control and started assaulting Mahesh (manager).

“After committing the crime, the accused person fled away, but owing to the prompt action of the police the accused person was detained and a case has been registered,” said sources.

Arphul Kharbani is the president of Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) West Khasi Hills and also the President of Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Driver Association (MCTO&DA), West Khasi Hills Unit.
