SHILLONG | August 10, 2019:

The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong on Friday remanded the chowkidar of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church, Alfast Bareh to judicial custody for allegedly misusing the funds of the Church amounting to Rs 3.26 crore since 2013.

Earlier on Friday, the police had produced the chowkidar before the CJM court after the five days police custody had ended.

Police sources informed that the police had not sought for extension of the custody since the accused had already confessed his crime even as informing that they had also frisked the documents concerning the case.

Earlier, the Lumdiengjri police had arrested the chowkidar from the premises of the Church on August 03 following an FIR filed by the Church.

It may be mentioned that the funds that was misused is the donation which the Church had received from its members.

The church had revealed about the act committed by the chowkidar during a Church service on July 31. Meanwhile, the chowkidar, while speaking to a section of the media, has confessed that he had misused the funds of the Church since 2013.

"The Church used to give me the money to deposit in the bank. The Church did not suspect that I had misused Rs 3,26,90,000 since the detailed record of the bank is with me," he said.
