SHILLONG | Nov 01:
The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the Meghalaya Charcoal Control of Production, Storage and Transit Rules, 2019 which made it mandatory for the Ferro Alloy Industries to import charcoal from outside the state.
With the coming of the new rule, the ferro alloy industries are no longer allowed to use the charcoal produce within the State.
"With the amendment rules, source charcoal will have to be import from outside the State. This means that charcoal which is produced locally will not be allowed to be used in ferro alloy industries operating in the State," Deputy Chief Minister told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
He said that the ferro alloy units will have to procure charcoal form outside the State with immediate effect.
When asked whether the ferry alloy unit are allowed to use locally produce charcoal under the previous rules, Tynsong informed that there was a provision earlier where industries using charcoal as a material are allowed to obtain source charcoal only from registered producers, stockiest or imports.
