Meghalaya Cabinet takes several key decisions

The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the Meghalaya Charcoal Control of Production, Storage and Transit Rules, 2019 which made it mandatory for the Ferro Alloy Industries to import charcoal from outside the state.

With the coming of the new rule, the ferro alloy industries are no longer allowed to use the charcoal produce within the State.

"With the amendment rules, source charcoal will have to be import from outside the State. This means that charcoal which is produced locally will not be allowed to be used in ferro alloy industries operating in the State," Deputy Chief Minister told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

He said that the ferro alloy units will have to procure charcoal form outside the State with immediate effect.

When asked whether the ferry alloy unit are allowed  to use locally produce charcoal under the previous rules, Tynsong informed that there was a provision earlier where industries using charcoal as a material are allowed to obtain source charcoal only from registered producers, stockiest or imports.

"But with the new, this will not be allowed. The industries will have to import charcoal from outside the State.

What about the local consumption, he said that there is no ban on the local consumption.

Cabinet approves proposed amendment of MRSSA 2016

The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the proposed amendment of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 in the form of an ordinance.

Talking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the State Government had approved the draft amendment of the MRRSA, 2016 which will come into force immediately. The ordinance will be regularise in the next Assembly session.

Cabinet approves appointment of PMC for National Games

Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved the proposal for appointment of the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for implementing the different projects of the National Games to be hosted by the State in 2022.  The proposal to appoint the PMC was brought by Sports and Youth Affairs department.

Deputy Chief Minister informed that the Cabinet approved the proposal to appoint Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited (HSWCL) to be engaged as PMC for implementation of the various projects for the National Games. It may be mentioned that HSWCL is the Government of India undertaking PSU.

Cabinet approves service rules of MSPCB

Further, the Cabinet today approved the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board Service Regulation Rules, 2019.

"The Meghalaya Pollution Control Board does not have a service rules all these years. Today, the Cabinet has approved the draft service rules for the office of the MSPCB. The board will now its own service rules," Tynsong said.

Appointment of GIS manager and Asst GIS manager

The Cabinet approved the proposal brought by IT department for issuing of office memorandum prepared by the concerned department for allowing of appointment of GIS manager and Asst GIS manager.
