Senior Working President of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Bindo Mathew Lanong will lead the party pending the election of the new office bearers to be held during the General Council meeting on September 11.
"Being the senior most member of the party, he (Lanong) will continue to lead the party till the election of the new office bearers," UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh told reporters after special meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) which was held on Friday.
According to Mawthoh, the president post of the party felt vacant after the demise of the late Dr Donkupar Roy.
"The present set up will continue to function until the General Council elects the new office bearer of the party for the next three years," senior working president of the UDP said.
Meanwhile, he informed that the party has also formed the Organising Committee for the General Council which will be be headed by senior party leader and Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh.
Lanong also informed that the party is trying to strengthen and reorganize the party in the Garo Hills region. "The senior party leaders of the party will be having meeting with the leaders from Garo Hills in Williamnagar on August 17," he added.
