Meghalaya: Internal conflict within KHADC prompts Govt to intervene

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong has stated that the present Executive Committee led by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) should be allowed to deliver its promises made to the people during the elections to the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) held earlier this year.
"The present EC should be allowed to deliver the promises made to the people. The MDCs who are part of the UDA should ensure the stability of the EC in the KHADC," Tynsong said after summoning both KHADC chairman, Pynshngain N Syiem and Deputy CEM, Pyniaid Singh Syiem at his chamber recently to resolved their differences.
It may be recalled that during the recent budget session of the KHADC, Pyniaid had accused Pynshngain of trying to bring down the image of the Executive Committee in the eyes of the public just to show that he is the fittest to occupy the post of the CEM.
The Deputy CEM had stated all the members of the UDA comprising of the UDP, NPP, HSPDP, PDF and independent MDCs are not happy with the attempt of the chairman to 'demean' the EC.
Pynshngain had rubbished the accusations made against him while maintaining that as the chairman, he was trying to maintain a neutral position while presiding over the session of the House.
Besides, the Deputy CEM and Chairman of the KHADC, the Parliamentary Party leader of the NPP in the Council, Gigur Myrthong was also present when the Deputy Chief Minister had summoned the two leaders in his office chamber at the Main Secretariat building.
When asked about the reason to summon both Pyniaid and Pynshngain, he said that he wanted the two leaders to resolve their differences.
"I have summoned them with the intention to resolve the differences. As the two leaders of the party, they should try to reconcile and work together to ensure the stability of the present EC in the Council," he said.
Tynsong said that he had also requested the two leaders that they should avoid going to the media and as responsible leaders, they should try to resolve the problem amicably.
"I would not like to see the war of words in the media," Deputy Chief Minister said. He said that the two leaders have assured that they would ensure that the EC is able to deliver as per the expectations of the people.
To the accusations made by Pyniaid that Pynshngain is attempting to topple the EC, he said that such kind of matters should not be leaked to the media.
"If such issues are there, they should be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, who is also the president of the party," he added.
