SHILLONG | Sept 21, 2019:

Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek has come in support of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh by stating that the Minister should not be judged by his performance in the floor of the Assembly.

"It is not easy for first timers to face the house. They will need to acclimatize how to reply to the questions raised in the Assembly. I am sure they will improve through experience," Hek said while speaking to reporters here on Friday.

It may be mentioned that Banteidor had failed to reply to the questions raised by Mawsynram legislator, H.M. Shangpliang relating to the Sports department in the recently concluded Autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. It was Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma who came to the rescue of the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister.

He also said that he does not see it is a valid reason to drop the Minister just because he had faltered in the floor of the House. "I don't think what the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister has done in the house is an embarrassment to the Government," Hek added.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister have claimed that the Congress MLAs still come to meet him every now and then.

"Around eight Congress MLAs are eager to be part of the BJP. The only thing which prevents them from join the party is because they don't have the numbers. We can even arrange a meeting with the central leadership in Delhi if they are really serious to join the party," he said.

Replying to a query, he said that the party will abide by the central leadership if there is proposal to project former Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma as the Chief Minister if he can bring all the Congress MLAs to join the BJP.
