Meghalaya HC remains shut after five officials test Covid positive

SHILLONG | AUG 10, 2020:

The Meghalaya High Court, on Monday, August 10, clarified that five officials of the High Court Registry have been tested COVID-19 positive and are under the supervision of a medical team.

The clarification was issued after rumours of health protocols being violated in the High Court, were being circulated on social media.

The officials, who were tested positive for the virus, are asymptomatic and are presently, undergoing self-isolation at the High Court Guest House where they are being monitored, a press release stated.

"Owing to the nature of their duties, a thorough enquiry was conducted and after such enquiry, it has been ascertained and confirmed that they have not come into contact with any other person inside/outside the High Court", it stated.

It stated that all the guests of the High Court have been strictly adhering to the protocols as provided by the state government while getting themselves tested immediately on their arrival in Shillong while maintaining all quarantine/social distancing norms.

However, there's a need to sanitize the High Court premises since it is a public place and to protect the officers and employees. The High Court Administration has also ordered a three-day complete lockdown of the High Court premises which will come into effect from August 10-12.

Meanwhile, it has also warned those who are responsible for spreading such rumours that they will be proceeded against and accordingly dealt with, according to the law.

It further warned that whosoever are responsible for spreading such rumours on social media will be penalized and strict actions will be taken against those involved.
