Meghalaya govt to convene all party meet to discuss law & order situation

The NPP led MDA Government has decided to convene an all party meeting to discuss the current impasse in view of the present law and order situation in the State.

"Many of the political parties have approached the Government on need to call for an all party meeting. I have already communicated to the additional chief secretary in charge Home and Political to issue the necessary notification in this regard," Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma told reporters here today.

Earlier on Friday, Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma has written to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma for holding of an all party meet to come out with the collective solution to end the current impasse.

"I have written to the Chief Minister on the need to convene an all party meeting," Dr Sangma had informed.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister said that they will also be calling other stakeholders to ensure everybody is on board.

"At certain point of time as responsible leaders we should work together for the interest of the people of the State," Sangma said.

On the demand of the opposition that the Government should institute a high level inquiry to inquire into the Ichamati incident, he said,let the magisterial inquiry report come in.

"We will then take a decision on further action which needs to be done," Meghalaya Chief Minister said.

On the law and order situation, he said that in the past 24 hours, there had not been any incident.

"We are further reviewing the situation in the evening to decide on the different curfews that had been imposed," Sangma said.

On the question if these security measures which are in place will continue till the board examination ends, he said that the Government will always ensure that all measures are put in place.

"We will not bring it down in any way. But we are also concerned about the way the life of the citizens who have been affected. We are trying to balance out and ensure that mechanisms are in place and minimum inconvenience is caused to the people," Sangma said

On the question that opposition are indulged in satirical jibes instead of offering its support to the Government, he said that he would like to appeal to all political parties and stakeholders to work together to restore normalcy and peace and harmony in the State.
