The Mining and Geology department on February 24 issued the auction notice for auctioning the extracted coal.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the auction notice for the extracted coal was issued in pursuance of the Order of Supreme Court dated July 3, 2019, in Civil Appeal No. 10720 of 2018.

According to Tynsong, there are two parts to the auction notice.

“This notice which has been issued is a general one and it would mean that interested parties or bidders need to register themselves with MSTC Ltd through spot e-auction and once that is done and they are registered the second step is that they will get the details of slots of the coal to be an auction,” he said.

Tynsong further informed that they have also created a dumping yard. Added that they have created six to seven slots in East Jaintia Hills and the interested parties will go, inspect and assess the extracted coal.

“After this, the bidding process will start and the highest bidder will be considered,” Tynsong said.

As per the auction notice, the online e-auction of coal will be conducted through MSTC Ltd portal: (https://www.mstcecommerce.com/coalauctionhome/mcoal/index.jsp)

The Deputy Chief Minister also mentioned interested buyers can register in the online portal of MSTC Ltd.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) committee earlier had directed the State Government to speed up the exercise for auctioning the Two lakh metric tonnes of coal.
