Meghalaya: For the first time, KHADC session starts with anthem song ‘Ri Khasi’

SHILLONG | JUNE 24, 2020: 

For the first time in the history of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the Summer Session on Wednesday started with a Khasi Anthem, 'Ri-Khasi, Ri-Khasi'. 

KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tistosttarwell Chyne has confirmed that this is the first time that the Khasi anthem was sung on the floor of the House.

It may be recalled that the plea was made by the MDCs for the introduction of the 'Khasi anthem' in the previous session of the Council.   

"The Khasi anthem 'Ri Khasi, Ri Khasi' should be sung on the opening and concluding day of the Council's session," UDP leader and MDC from Jaiaw, Paul Lyngdoh had stated.

Lyngdoh said that the Khasi anthem song is significant as the District Council was established to preserve and protect the indigenous people. The UDP leader further opined that taking the oath of office by elected representatives of the District Council should also be done in Khasi.
