Meghalaya: Elaborate traffic arrangement for Archbishop Jala’s funeral on Oct 23 (Detailed)
SHILLONG | Oct 21, 2019:
In view of the upcoming funeral of the Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, Most Rev Dominic Jala scheduled to be held on October 23, the Shillong Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements in the city to ensure smooth flow of traffic in and around the city on that particular day and the same will be enforced from 6 am of October 23 till withdrawn.
Here are the following traffic arrangements:
NO ENTRYs:
- Dhankheti Point towards Don Bosco Point
- Don Bosco Point towards Dhankheti Point
Entry will only be allowed only for VIPs of which the Police will be controlling at every point.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
FOR LIGHT MOTOR VEHICLES (LMV)
- Salestian Training Centre (Reserved)
- Don Bosco Tchnical School (Reserved for vehicles with passes)
- Malki Play Ground
- Christ Koing College Basketball Court
- St Mary's School Campus
- Moreao Institute of Integral Training
- St Anthony's College Basketball Court
- St Margaret Compound
- St Anthony's HS School Stadium
- Loreto Convent School
- New Parking Lot of Loreto Convent School
- St Edmund's College Parking Lot.

FOR HEAVY MOTOR VEHICLES (HMVs)
- Nongthymmai Playground and Madam Iewrynghep Ground for HMVs coming from Laitkor side
- Bucher Road for HMVs coming from Upper Shillong side
- SRGT, Polo for HMVs coming from GS Road via Mawlai- Phudmuri road.
People attending the funeral are requested to park their vehicles in the designated parking lots as per the arrangement and not to park their vehicles on the road sides.
The City traffic police are expecting a huge footfall on October 23 as people from all faiths will be attending the funeral. "We are expecting a huge turnout of people from all faiths considering the fact that the Archbishop was a religious leader who was popular and known to many people irrespective of their religion," said East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Claudia Lyngwa.
Furthermore, the EKH SP has also appreciated the efforts of the Guwahati Police in clearing the traffic when the cortege was passing through the city from the airport till the Guwahati Province.
When asked about the medical support team on call, Lyngwa said that the Church will take care of the medical teams.
