TURA | JUNE 05, 2020:

The contractual teachers have filed a writ petition questioning the credibility of Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) after the question papers were leaked. This move came after an advertisement for teaching posts, requiring MTET as a measure for qualification, was issued.

The teachers referred to advertisements by the districts of South West Khasi Hills and South West Garo Hills, which in compliance with the order of the education department which mandated MTET as a pre-requisite for applying for the posts of assistant teacher posts. The advertisement was made public on May 29.

Many contractual teachers from various districts had earlier filed petitions on the matter WP(C) No 98 of 2020, WP(C) No.99 of 2020, WP(C) No.101 of 2020, WP(C) No.102 of 2020 and WP(C) No.103 of 2020 challenging the declaration of the MTET Exam result dated 25.02.2020 which was conducted on 31.01.2019 on the ground that there was large scale of leakage of question papers.

A case on the matter was also filed at the Tura PS by a lawyer who was amongst the first people to inform on the leak. The lawyer Kamrul Hasan had filed the case in 2019. However as per available reports, there has been no progress made in the investigation of the case.

"We have challenged the credibility and transparency of the MTET Exam which was held on Jan 31 and sought the cancellation of the results and to set aside the entire process of recruitment. The Court, vide order dated Mar 23, 2020, has issued notice to the government and to file their reply," said Asilbirth R. Marak, one of the petitioners.

"We are highly aggrieved and dissatisfied with the order of the Director and filed a fresh Writ Petition in the High Court of Meghalaya challenging the fresh order," he added.
