SHILLONG | July 10, 2019:

Congress leader and former Meghalaya cabinet minister, Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday submitted her resignation as AICC Secretary i/c of Mizoram, a decision which she had announced last week soon after Rahul Gandhi officially quit as the AICC president.

In a Twitter post today, Lyngdoh wrote, "As announced earlier in the press, I have sent in my resignation as AICC Secretary i/c of Mizoram. I thank sir Rahul Gandhi for giving me this opportunity to work for the party. We can do few other important things than just occupy important posts at the AICC."

When contacted, Lyngdoh informed that she submitted her resignation to the Congress General Secretary in-charge North East Luizinho Falerio on Monday.

"I don't know about others but I had done what I had to do. It was Rahul Gandhi who appointed me; he personally picked me, so I feel it is very very important to remember that when he is out of the team then I need to also exit and allow the new dispensation to take necessary decision all across the country," she told TNT-The Northeast Today.

When asked whether she'd heard any news on the selection of a new AICC president, she said "I think the exercise is on. But we know they are looking for somebody young and dynamic. It is going to take a bit of time."

The Congress legislator had on July 3 decided to step down from the post of AICC In-charge Mizoram to pave way for the formation of a new team.
