Meghalaya Coal Mine Tragedy: All you need to know (Updates)

It was on December 13 morning when more than 13 miners including three locals of Lumthari village in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) were trapped inside the coal mine at Ksan near Lyteiñ river under Saipung Police Station in EJH district of Meghalaya.

Even after 13 days, the fate of the trapped miners hangs in balance as NDRF and SDRF rescuers are yet to find any luck to lower the water level inside the rat-hole mine.

It may be mentioned that amongst the 13 people – 6 are from Assam, 4 from West Garo Hills and 3 of them are locals from East Jaintia Hills.

Updates on Coal mine incident

  3. 20 lakh litres of water have been pumped out
  4. Water level continue to rise
  5. Government is in the process to get high power pump
  6. The operation said to go to a different level now.
  7. The state government is in touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs even as the Government claimed that help is being extended
  8. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that the government will continue trying and give more efforts
  9. AICC President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter on Wednesday to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having his pictures taken while inaugurating the Bogibeel railroad bridge in Assam instead of helping the 15 miners trapped in a 370-foot-deep coal mine.
  10. Kiren Rijiju hits back asking the Congress President not to play politics on tragedy.
  11. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also reacted to Rahul Gandhi's tweets stating that now is not the time to play politics on it while adding that there is no question of calling off the operation
