SHILLONG | May 28, 2019:

Taking a strong exception on the accusations leveled by Shillong MP, Vincent H Pala, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today said that the Congress is trying to shift the blame to the present MDA Government on its failure to resolve the ban of coal mining.

"The Congress has never made any serious effort to see that the ban on coal mining in the State is lifted. The issue continues to linger even now. They (Congress) got four years to resolve the matter since the ban on coal mining was imposed in the State in 2014," Conrad said while reacting to accusations of Pala that some Ministers in the Government are getting a share on the illegal transportation of coal.

He said that if they are making such statements, then they should think what they have done during their time.

Meanwhile, he said that the MDA Government has been making serious efforts to resolve this issue which had badly affected the people of the State.

"The MDA Government had already filed a case in the apex court. This only shows the intention of the present Government. Let them present the case if they are making such allegations," Conrad said.

Meghalaya Chief Minister informed that the Government is making serious efforts to ensure that proper mining and scientific mining is being carried out in the state with total regard to environment and safety of miners.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, while reacting to the accusations of Pala, had asked the MP to be specific and give the name of the Ministers who are involved in such practices.
