Meghalaya: Clash erupts in Shella, KSU member killed, curfew likely

A KSU member, Lurshai Hynniewta was killed following a clash with non-locals at Ichamati, Shella on Friday evening.

Several KSU members and policemen were injured in the clash.

The KSU had gone to Ichamati to organise a public meeting to speak on the CAA and ILP.

It was during the public meeting that a clash erupted between the KSU members and the non-tribals.

Several vehicles were also vandalised in view of the clash.

The KSU president, Lambokstarwell Marngar is still stuck at Ichamati.

When contacted, Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the Goverment has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

"We have directed the police to arrest the people who are responsible for the death of the death KSU member," Rymbui said.

He said that the Government is examining if there is a need to clamp curfew in East Khasi Hills to prevent any law and order problem which erupted in view of the clash.

According to him, they are also examining if there is also a need to suspend the internet services.
