"As per the original Act, the distance for setting up of teer counters was allowed within a minimum distance of 300 meters from the educational institutions and place of worship," Deputy Chief Minister said.

While justifying the move, Tynsong said that the decision to reduce the distance is justified since 300 meter distance is quite huge for a place like Shillong. "Therefore, we felt that the proposal made by the ERTS is justified considering the space constraint in Shillong city," he said.
