Meghalaya: Bomb scare near Tura MP Agatha Sangma’s house

TURA | May 28, 2019:

An alarm was raised this morning by a resident of West Garo Hills who alerted the cops of a bomb like object being found near the house of Tura's MP, Agatha Sangma.

After receiving the information, WGH police conducted a massive search near the NPP leader's house.

The alarm, however, later turned out to be a sophisticated fire cracker, which had not been burst – apparently during her win in the just concluded MP elections.

According to police, a call was received this morning of a suspicious object being seen about 20 metres from the house of the MP.

Police, along with the bomb squad, immediately rushed to Walbakgre, where Agatha resides.

However, this morning only her mother, Soradini K Sangma, the widow of Late PA Sangma was present in the house.

"A thorough search of the area was made and we found the suspicious object where it was described. The area around where the object was found was also searched thoroughly. It became apparent that it was not an explosive but a fire cracker which had not burst possibly during the recent celebration. Similar burst cracker remnants were also recovered from near the site," said superintendent of police, WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.
