Meghalaya: 5 workers choked to death while cleaning water tank in West Jaintia Hills

Five people lost their lives after being trapped in a water tank at Lumpyrtuh Mihmyntdu village in West Jaintia Hills District on Monday, a local media agency reported.

While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the five could have died because of asphyxiation caused by gas while they were cleaning the tank which was reported to be about 35 feet deep.

According to reports from Syllad local news agency, the deceased have been identified as Hamlet Suchiang (37), Phima Dkhar (24), Daniboy Iano (27), Niwan Suchiang (48) and Bunlad Suchiang (34) all hailing from Raliang, West Jaintia Hills District.

Despite attempts to contact the authorities, the same are not available for comments.
