Manipur | Re-poll marred by attacks on CPI workers

IMPHAL, April 25, 2019: Two vehicles were damaged as suspected BJP workers attacked CPI workers outside two polling stations where re-poll was held on Wednesday along with 10 other polling stations in Imphal East district.

Some CPI workers sustained minor injuries in the attacks near polling stations in Andro Assembly segment and Keirao Assembly segment.

According to reports, some CPI workers who went to observe the polling process at two polling stations in Andro Assembly segment were attacked by a group of suspected BJP workers before reaching one of the polling stations.

The group using sticks and stones, physically assaulted them before causing damage to the vehicle in which they were travelling.

people, mostly women and youths, alleged that CPI (M) workers came to disturb the voting process which they claimed was going on peacefully, an allegation strongly denied by CPI workers.

They were following CPI candidate Dr M Nara Singh who visited the polling stations were re-polls were conducted today along with 10 other stations across Imphal East district.

All the 12 polling stations where re-poll was held today spread over Imphal East district.

In another poll related incident, an inner agent of the CPI along with one of his accompanied who went to drop the inner agent in a vehicle were attacked by a group of suspected BJP workers before reaching the polling station at Keirao Assembly segment.

Four polling stations of the Keirao Assembly constituency were included among the 12 polling stations where re-polls were held today under tight security measures.
