Manipur | From 2010-2014, no revenue record found for Sangai Festival

An RTI application with the Tourism department as to gather information regarding organizing Sangai Festival revealed that there were no revenue records maintained of the festival from 2010 to 2014.

Sangai Festival, an annual cultural festival organised by the Tourism department from November 21 to November 30 every year. Many editions of the festival have been celebrated over the past few years under the name of "tourism festival"; but from 2010 onwards, it has been celebrated as Sangai Festival.

Speaking to media which was held at Manipur Press club, advocate, L. Herojit said that Manipur Sangai Festival is a large cultural festival of the state. To know the progress and development of the festival, an RTI had written to the Tourism department on January 10 this year which included submission of reports on investment, revenue, entry ticket, department responsibility, number of tourist from outside state, he added.

According to Sangai festival report of 2010, Rs.76,80,000 was invested, followed by Rs.1,10,00,000 in 2011, Rs.1,58,33,430 in 2012, Rs.3,16,48,816 in 2013 and Rs.3,36,62,439 in 2014, however no records of revenue and entry tickets were mentioned in the reports of four years, said Herojit.

He continued that in 2015, the investments of Manipur Sangai Festival was Rs.8,00,00,000 with reports on number of entry tickets sale as 2,53,96 and revenue of Rs.20,66,588. In 2016, the investment was Rs.8,00,00,000 with tickets sale number of 2,32,343 and revenue of Rs.23,43,713, followed by investment of Rs.9,97,60,000 in 2017, with tickets sale number of 3,13,795 and revenue of Rs.50,97,465.

Totally from 2010 to 2017, the investment of Manipur Sangai Festival so far is Rs.39,95,84,685 and total revenue from 2015 to 2017 is Rs.95,07,766, said Herojit.
