Manipur CM announces prize money of Rs. 5 lakh for harvesting rainwater

IMPHAL | June 28, 2019:

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday had announced a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh for the best panchayat that puts effort in preservation of rainwater and ground water.

While emphasizing on the need for a collective effort to conserve and preserve rainwater and ground water CM Biren in a meeting with elected members of panchayati raj institutions held at his office secretariat said that the Pradhans and zilla parishad members, whose areas are selected for the award, would be honored at a state level function.

He stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the brainchild of the rainwater harvesting mission, he added that people must find a way to harvest rainwater for farming purposes during the lean session.

Biren added that the present government has initiated rainwater harvesting schemes in the hill areas, including Tamei in Tamenglong district and other districts of Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul and Churachandpur. Such schemes have been constructed with an approximate cost of Rs 2 crore each by the minor irrigation department.
