SHILLONG:

In continuation with their demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, the pressure groups of the state held a public gathering at Motphran parking lot in Shillong where the effigies of the BJP-led NDA government and the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) were burned.

The NGOs include -- the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) and the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF).

Aside from the ILP demand, the pressure groups are also demanding the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act.

The pressure groups have also threatened to take over the entry-exit point at Umling in Ri Bhoi district if the government fails to make the facilitation centre functional by Dec 21.
